Are you in KPK, or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? Prepare yourself for a busy monsoon season! An active Southwest Monsoon system is predicted to provide moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms to several places, particularly Central and Lower KPK, between July 29 and July 31, 2025. Increased river flows and a greater chance of flash floods result from this.
What to Expect:
- Increased River Flows: Higher water levels are anticipated in rivers such as the Kabul (particularly at Nowshera), Swat, Panjkora, Bara, and Kalpani Nullah. Rain and glacier melting might cause even the River Chitral and the streams that surround it to overflow.
- Flash Flooding Risk: Local nullahs and hilly streams in Central and Lower KPK are more vulnerable to unexpected flash floods. This covers regions such as Dir, Buner, Malakand, Kohistan, and Swat.
- Urban Flooding: Be ready for possible urban flooding and waterlogging if you reside in low-lying parts of Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, or Abbottabad.
Your Safety Matters: Here’s What You Can Do:
- Stay Alert: Pay extra attention to water levels, particularly at night or during periods of intense precipitation, if you reside close to rivers, streams, or nullahs.
- Stay Informed: For the most recent flood warnings and official updates, tune in to your local TV, radio, or cellphone notifications.
- Plan Ahead: Be aware of your secure escape routes. Talk about them with your family and make sure that everyone is aware of where to go in the event that you have to evacuate.
- Protect Your Belongings: Move expensive household goods, cars, and animals to higher ground to protect your possessions. Avoid putting things off till the last minute!
- Never Risk It: Avoid crossing causeways, low bridges, and flooded roads at all costs. An adult can be swept off their feet by just 6 inches of swift-moving water, whereas most cars can be carried away by 12 inches. The danger is just not worth it.
Stay safe and stay informed during this monsoon period!
